Defending champions Brazil came out on top on the first match of the semi final of the copa America 2007 against historic rival Uruguay. Brazil twice took the lead and twice caught sleeping before winning the game on penalty shootout. Maicon opened the scoring for Brazil on the 14th minute before the game interrupted for floodlight failur. But Uruguay dominated the midfield producing successive corners and the former Manchester united player Deigo Forlan level the game on the 36th minute following a poor clearance from the goalkeeper. Uruguay's joy didn't last long as Brazil hit back after 5 minutes and retook the lead once again by Julio Babtista goal on the 40th minute.In the second half Uruguay dominance in the midfield again got them back to the game when substitute Sebastián Abreu scored on the 70th minute. With the game tied 2-2, the teams went straight to penalty shootouts. Daigo Forlan took the first shot, rather weak, straight at the goalkeeper which put Uruguay in an early hole. Then a miss by Alfonso on the fourth shot of the team gave a lifeline for Uruguay and they were even close to snatching a win before Garcia's shot hit the post. Two save by goalkeeper Doni put lucky Brazilians through to the final with 5-4 shootout win.
Brazil Awaits the winner of tomorrow's highly anticipated match between Mexico and Argentina.
